Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, the Head of the Expediency Council and Iran’s former president from 1989 to 1997, died at hospital of a heart failure on Sunday at the age of 82.

فوت آیت الله علی اکبر هاشمی رفسنجانی، یکی از چهره های کلیدی پایه گذار انقلاب اسلامی، مردم ایران را در شوک فرو برد و غم بزرگی را در قبل مردم ایران و پیروان انقلاب اسلامی برجای گذاشت. 

The death of Ayatollah  Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, one of the key founding figures of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, shocked Iranians, leaving a huge grief in the hearts of the Iranian people and the Islamic Revolution followers.

رفسنجانی در طی دوره ریاست جمهوری خود به شدت معتقد بود ایران نیازمند تغییرات اقتصادی و توازن بین واقع گرایی و ایدئولوژی اسلامی است. 

During his presidency, Rafsanjani strongly believed that Iran needs economic changes and making balance between realism and Islamic ideology.

رفسنجانی دو سیاست پراگماتیسم شامل حل مشکلات اقتصادی ناشی از جنگ و بهبود روابط ایرلان با سایر کشورها را دنبال کرد.  بخاطر تلاشهایش برای بازسازی کشور پس از جنگ، در بین سیاستمداران به عنوان "سردار سازندگی" شهرت داشت. 

Rafsanjani pursued two pragmatic policies including solving economic problems that war had caused and improving Iran relations with other countries. He was widely known as "Generla of Construction" among politicians for his efforts in reconstructing the country after war.

وی تلاش کرد تا موضوعات سیاسی را از اقتصادی جداکرده، علیرغم فقدان روابط دیپلماتیک بین ایران و ایالات متحده، تجارت با آمریکا را احیا کند. هاشمی رفسنجانی معتقد بود که ایران جهت از سرگیری روابط سیاسی دو کشور به ایالات متحده نمی تواند اعتماد کند. 

He attempted to separate political issues from economic ones, resuming trade with the US regardless of the absence of diplomatic relationships between Iran and the United States. Hashemi Rafsanjani believed that Iran could not trust the United States to resume political relations between the two countries.

The loss of a comrade and companion, the background of cooperation and the beginning of empathy and collaboration with whom dates back to 59 years ago, is hard and heart-rending. What difficulties and bottlenecks we went through over these scores of years and what joint ideas and empathy that in many junctures [of time] motivated us to make effort and tolerate [hardships] and accept risks along with each other on a common path.

هوش وافر و صمیمیت کم‌نظیر او در آن سالها، تکیه‌گاه مطمئنی برای همه‌ی کسانی که با وی همکار بودند به ویژه برای اینجانب به شمار می‌آمد. 

His high intellect and unique sincerity in those years was a trustworthy point of reliance for all those who worked with him, especially for me.

اختلاف نظرها و اجتهادهای متفاوت در برهه‌هائی از این دوران طولانی هرگز نتوانست پیوند رفاقتی را که سرآغاز آن در بین‌الحرمین کربلای معلّی بود به کلی بگسلد و وسوسه‌ی خناسانی که در سالهای اخیر با شدّت و جدیت در پی بهره‌برداری از این تفاوتهای نظری بودند، نتوانست در محبت شخصی عمیق او نسبت به این حقیر خلل وارد آورد.

Differences of viewpoints and opinions at certain junctures in this long period [of cooperation] could never sever the friendship ties, which started at Bein-ol-Haramein in [the city of] Karbala, and temptations by evil ones, who in recent years tried with intensity and seriousness to take advantage of these theoretical differences, could not undermine his profound personal compassion for this humble one.

او نمونه‌ی کم‌نظیری از نسل اوّل مبارزان ضد ستم‌شاهی و از رنج‌دیدگان این راه پرخطر و پرافتخار بود.

He was a unique example of the first generation of those who struggled against the tyrant regime of Shah and was among those who suffered along this risky and honorable path.

سال‌ها زندان و تحمل شکنجه‌های ساواک و مقاومت در برابر این همه و آنگاه مسئولیتهای خطیر در دفاع مقدس و ریاست مجلس شورای اسلامی و مجلس خبرگان و غیره، برگهای درخشان زندگی پر فراز و نشیب این مبارز قدیمی است.

[Going through] years of imprisonment and tolerance of [brutal] tortures by SAVAK and resistance against all these and then [accepting] crucial positions during the Sacred Defense and [as] speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and the Assembly of Experts and the likes of them were brilliant chapters in the bumpy life of this old struggler.

با فقدان هاشمی اینجانب هیچ شخصیت دیگری را نمی‌شناسم که تجربه‌ای مشترک و چنین درازمدت را با او در نشیب و فرازهای این دوران تاریخ‌ساز به یاد داشته باشم.

After the loss of Hashemi, I know of no other personality, with whom I had such a common experience over such a long period through thin and thick of this history-making period.

اکنون این مبارز کهنسال در محضر محاسبه‌ی الهی با پرونده‌ئی مشحون از تلاش و فعالیت گوناگون قرار دارد، و این سرنوشت همه‌ی ما مسئولان جمهوری اسلامی است.

Now, this age-old struggler is present before God with a track record full of various kinds of efforts and endeavors and this is the fate of all of us, officials of the Islamic Republic.

غفران و رحمت و عفو الهی را برای وی از صمیم قلب تمنا میکنم و به همسر گرامی و فرزندان و برادران و دیگر بازماندگان ایشان تسلیت عرض میکنم.

 I wish the divine forgiveness and mercy and clemency for him from the bottom of my heart and condole with his esteemed wife and children and brothers and other survivors.

In the days of H. H. Fatemeh Masumehs (SA) mourning and Amir Kabirs sad martyrdom, Iran sat mourning for its worthy commander and the national hero in fighting tyranny and colonisation went to meet his maker.

حضرت آیت الله اکبر هاشمی رفسنجانی فرزند ثابت قدم روح الله، همراه و همدل دیرین رهبری، چهره ممتاز و تاریخ‌ساز انقلاب اسلامی و دلسوز واقعی مردم؛ پس از عمری مجاهدت و صبوری به ملاقات حق شتافت.

 Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was Rouhollah [Khomeini]s steadfast son, long-standing companion of the leader, distinguished and history-making figure of Islamic Revolution and somebody who was truly sympathetic towards people. 

تاریخ چه تقدیر پر معنایی داشت که آن اسطوره حلم و تحمل و ایمان و اعتدال، در روزی به دیدار خداوند متعال شتافت که نقطه آغاز خیزش و قیام ملت در دفاع از خمینی کبیر، بنیانگذار انقلاب اسلامی بود.

How meaningful it was in history that the legend of faith, patience, tolerance and moderation passed away on the very day that peoples uprising in defending the great Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Revolution.

سخن گفتن از هاشمی که سال‌ها در کنار او بودم برای من بسیار دشوار است. وی در طول مبارزات مردم ایران تحت زعامت امام بزرگوار، یک انقلابی تمام‌عیار بود.  

Talking about Hashemi, whom I was beside for many years, is very difficult. He was a perfect example of a revolution-backer during the Iranian nation's fight under the leadership of late Imam.

سال‌ها زندان و شکنجه، او را از راه آن مراد جدا نکرد. او همواره یکی از پیشتازان بنام انقلاب اسلامی بود. او بود که از قم تا نجف و از پاریس تا تهران هرگز امام و مرادش را تنها نگذاشت.

Years of prison and torture did not separate him from that path. He always was one of the distinguished forerunners of the Islamic Revolution.It was him who never left Imam alone from Qom to Najaf, and from Paris to Tehran.

هاشمی از معماران برجسته نظام جمهوری اسلامی ایران است؛ قانون اساسی، مجلس شورای اسلامی، مجلس خبرگان رهبری، ریاست جمهوری، مجمع تشخیص مصلحت نظام، حزب جمهوری اسلامی، سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی، جهاد سازندگی و تمام نهادهای انقلاب اسلامی مدیون تدبیر و آینده‌نگری این مرد فرداها است.

Hashemi is among the distinguished architects of the Islamic Republic of Iran; the Constitution, the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Assembly of Experts of Leadership, the Presidency, the Expediency Discernment Council of the System, the Islamic Republic Party, the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution, the Construction Jihad and all institutions of the Islamic Revolution are indebted to this man of future and his wisdom and foresight.

 او محبوب امام بود و خادم مردم؛ هرکجا که او مسئولیت آن را بر عهده داشت، مایه آرامش امام و رهبری و مردم بود. او تحلیل‌گیری توانا بود که جهان را به‌خوبی می‌شناخت. خطبه‌های نمازش در روزهای سخت دفاع مقدس به همه روحیه می‌داد. او در مظلومیت، چون یار دیرینش شهید بهشتی بود و ناسپاسی‌ها را به آسانی تحمل می‌کرد.

He was loved by Imam [Khomeini] and a servant to people. Wherever he was responsible for, he was a source of serenity for Imam, the leader and the people. He was a capable analyst and knew the world well. His sermons during the hard times of the Sacred Defence filled people with tremendous spirit. In being subject to persecution, he was like his old companion, martyr Ayatollah Beheshti, easily enduring ingratitude.

 هاشمی هیچ‌گاه از جنگ نهراسید ولی همواره صلح را گرامی می‌داشت؛ هم فرمانده شجاع میدان‌های جهاد و شهادت بود و هم قهرمان مذاکره برای پایان جنگ.

Hashemi never feared war and always sought peace; he was both a courageous commander of Jihad and martyrdom, and the hero of negotiation for ending the war.

سخن گفتن از بزرگ‌مردی که به‌حق سنگ زیرین آسیای نظام بود، ساده نیست. محرم امام و یاور بی بدیل مقام معظم رهبری بود. برای ایران و ایرانی، آرزوهای بزرگی داشت و تا جان داشت برای سربلندی میهن اسلامی کوشید. 

 Talking about a man who truly was the foundation of state is not easy. He was Imam's confidant and the Supreme Leader's incomparable companion. He had lofty wishes for Iran and Iranians and made tireless efforts for the pride of our Islamic homeland until the last moment of his life.

بسیار جفا دید و بسیار وفا کرد. با انحراف از مسیر اعتدال اسلامی سر سازش نداشت و مصلحت نظام را از هر امری بالاتر می‌دانست. مردم فهیم ایران، قدر خادمان خود را به خوبی می‌شناسند و دینشان را به سردار سازندگی ادا خواهند کرد.

He was subject to unkindness and showed loyalty. He did not agree with deviatingfrom the path of moderate Islam and considered the expediency of the system above all things. The understanding people of Iran are grateful of their servants and will pay their debts to the Commander of Construction.

نام هاشمی بزرگتر از آن است که احدی بتواند نقش‌آفرینی و حضور موثر او را در برگ برگِ تاریخ نهضت اسلامی، از ابتدای مبارزات در دهه چهل تا پیروزی انقلاب، و از سابقه بی‌بدیل و درخشان او در مدیریت دفاع مقدس تا همه مقاطع حساس تا واپسین دقائق زندگانی ایشان، و حیات همیشگی او در قلب مردم قدرشناس ایران عزیز را انکار کند. که پیر و مراد همه ما خمینی عزیز قدس الله نفسه الزکیه فرمود: «بدخواهان بدانند که هاشمی زنده است چون نهضت زنده است.»

Hashemi's name is so great that nobody can deny his effective role in every page of the history of the Islamic Movement from the first campaigns in the 1340s until the victory of the revolution and from his incomparable and excelling history in managing the country through the Sacred Defence era to all critical points until the last minutes of his life and his eternal life in the hearts of the grateful people of Iran. As our old and beloved Khomeini said once: "The hostiles should know that Hashemi is alive because the movement is alive".

 اینجانب با اعلام سه روز عزای عمومی و یک روز تعطیل رسمی؛ مصیبت بزرگ فقدان این قهرمان ملی، اندیشمند بزرگ اسلامی و سرمایه بی‌بدیل نظام جمهوری اسلامی ایران را محضر حضرت بقیه الله روحی له الفداه، مقام معظم رهبری، مراجع عظام تقلید، علما و فضلا، شخصیت‌های انقلاب و نظام، ملت قدرشناس ایران به‌خصوص مردم شریف استان کرمان و شهر رفسنجان، همه یاران و دوستداران و ارادتمندان ایشان به‌ویژه خانواده گرامی، همسر مکرمه و صبور و همچنین فرزندان و برادران آن مجاهد نستوه صمیمانه تسلیت می‌گویم و از درگاه خداوند متعال برای آن مرد بزرگ علو درجات و همجواری با ائمه اطهار(ع) و مرادش امام خمینی(ره)، همرزمان و شهدای انقلاب اسلامی، و برای همه بازماندگان صبر و أجر مسألت می‌دارم. 

  I therefore, announce 3 days of public mourning and a day of public holiday and express my sincerest condolences over the loss of the great national hero, Islamic intellectual and incomparable asset of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Imam Mahdi (AS), the Supreme Leader, great Maraji, scholars and clerics, prominent figures of the revolution and the state, the grateful Iranian nation, especially the noble people of Kerman province and Rafsanjan town, all his companions and followers, especially his respectful family, his patient wife and also his children and brothers, praying to the Almighty for the great man's mercy and highest places before Him, as well as sitting close to the Immaculate Imams (AS) and his companion, Imam Khomeini (RA), his comrades and martyrs of the Islamic Revolution and all people.

The sudden demise of Ayatollah Hashemi, who was a great scholar, a brave warrior and an old companion for Late Imam Khomeini and the Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and spent his whole life in path of Islamic Revolution, caused deep sorrow,

تاریخ معاصر ایران و جهان نقش و خاطره آیت الله هاشمی رفسنجانی را همواره به یاد خواهد داشت و بی شک مردم بزرگوار و فهیم ایران نیز قدردان تلاش های صادق آن بزرگمرد خواهند بود.

Contemporary history of Iran and the world would always remember him and Iranian nation would be grateful of his efforts.

اینجانب و تمامی همکارانم این ضایعه عظیم و دردناک را به محضر مقام معظم رهبری که یکی از شاخص ترین یاران دیرین و صدیق خود را از دست دادند و به تمامی ملت شریف ایران و به خصوص همسر و فرزندان برومند ایشان تسلیت عرض نموده و برای روح بلند آن عزیز از دست رفته علّو درجات از درگاه حضرت احدیت خواستارم.
